The programme of the Krakow Jazz Autumn is set, for the ninth time, to provide lovers of improvised music with a multitude of unforgettable concerts, workshops and other music-related events. Most of the planned concerts are the Polish premieres of new projects by recognised stars of the international improvised music scene.
This year, the ninth Kraków Jazz Autumn kicks off with a bang! The incredibly popular (cult even, as some claim) Dutch outfit The Ex will be performing on an open stage in Plac Nowy. Look forward to an incredibly powerful mix of punk rock, Ethiopian rhythms, free jazz solos on brass instruments, and sophisticated lyrics.
Since 2010, when she appeared on the Italian recording market with the album Skinshout, she has become an important personality on her local music scene. Every year, she has been ranked as one of the top ten most creative and promising artists on Italy’s improvised music scene, and her recordings, although they have nothing whatsoever in common with entertainment music, are some of the most eagerly consumed.

Autumn is nearing and with it the Krakow Jazz Autumn, a festival that in its 7 years of existence has established itself one of the most important festival scenes not only in Europe but around the world. Some of the most versatile and dynamic musicians of the improvised music scene today have starred at the festival, with Peter Brötzmann, Anthony Braxton, Barry Guy and Ken Vandermark taking the lead, giving both concerts and also as artists-in-residence.
We begin with four days of concerts at Alchemia featuring small groups (8, 9, 10, 11 October) and then finish off with panache with a concert featuring the whole group (12 October) in Manggha!
An Ames room is a room that is distorted to create a kind of optical illusion. It was created in 1934 by the American ophthalmologist, Adalbert Ames. As a result of the optical illusion, a person standing in one corner appears to be disproportionately tall, while the person standing in the other corner appears very short. People moving from one corner to the other seem to grow or shrink as they walk across the room.
