Volcano Trio is an international Austrian-Czech-Polish ensemble whose musicians met in Vienna. Each musician brings a distinctive sound shaped by his place of origin.

Emil Gross is an Austrian drummer known as “El Milio the Stick”, working across experimental music, rock, jazz, free improvisation and world music. Based in Vienna, he also works as a studio musician. He has toured Europe, the USA and Morocco with artists including Joe Fonda, Oliver Lake, Paul Rogers, Mike Kindred, Abdeljalil Kodssi, Michael Jeffry Stevens, Richard Palmer-James and Anupriya Deotale.

Radim Hanousek is a Czech saxophonist and composer focusing on different forms of improvisation and projects at the intersection of jazz and contemporary classical music. He co-founded the Norwegian-Czech quartet NOCZ and the Prague Music Performance Orchestra, which specialises in Anthony Braxton’s music. He has led Dust in the Groove since 2013 and also curates the international festival FAUN Explorations in Sound.

Łukasz Marciniak is a guitarist, composer and improviser. He is a member of Trio_io, El Topo, Perforto, a duo for prepared piano and electric guitar, and Attack of the Mugatu. He writes music for films and performances. In his solo work and free improvisation, he develops his own language of articulation. He has performed with artists including Mia Zabelka, Wieland Müller, Jaap Blonk, Isabelle Duthoit, Wojciech Brzoska and Edith Steyer.

TOC is a French jazz-core trio formed in 2008. Dense sound, raw physicality and bold trance states, underpinned by a joyful, compelling tension, define their energetic approach to improvised music. Noise, post-rock, psychedelia, experimental pop, krautrock and hardcore jazz: the musicians love blurring boundaries and taking listeners somewhere entirely unexpected.

As the title of one of their albums suggests, TOC never plays the same thing twice. They continually start afresh, allowing experiences from each tour to transform their music. Their hypnotic free-pop is seasoned with intoxicating grooves and a touch of kraut-jazz-core.

Their recordings include journeys into the acoustic landscapes of the far North, Qeqertarsuatsiaat (2015) and The Theory of Constraints (2024), and the sultry atmosphere of Louisiana’s swamps in Air Bump (2016). Enriched by concerts, experiments and encounters, they return to an electric, urban sound. Their collaborators have included Dave Rempis, Jean-Luc Guionnet and Paulina Owczarek, who joins them for this evening.

Alchemia, 5 Estery Street, Kraków.
