Satori Duo

Michał Giżycki – bass clarinet, saxophones (Poland)
Piotr Dąbrowski – drums, percussion, voice, perforated stick (Poland)
The duo draws inspiration from and explores the spiritual dimension of free jazz. Moving beyond conventional definitions of the genre, they seek its essence. Silence, concentration and meditation are as much a part of their music as trance-like energy and ecstatic expression. Attentive to the people, place, time and circumstances around them, the musicians give voice to a freely flowing musical energy. Deep listening, total commitment, freedom of action and shared feeling.
Michał Giżycki is a clarinettist, saxophonist and improviser working across free jazz, avant-garde jazz, improvised, experimental and folk music. His inspirations include nature, art, introspection and the circumstances of each encounter. He is a member of ensembles including Czarnoziem, Drogi Krajowe, En Quartet, Satori Duo, MikrobioM and nadiR Trio.
Piotr Dąbrowski is a drummer, multi-instrumentalist and explorer of sound who plays not only with his instruments, but with his whole being. He does not confine himself to genres, although free jazz is closest to his heart. Rain, streams, the sounds of the body and everything that flows beyond words inspire him. He practises music without instructions, with complete presence.
GBK Trio

Susanna Gartmayer – bass clarinet (Austria)
Thomas Berghammer – trumpet, flugelhorn, alto horn (Austria)
Didi Kern – drums (Austria)
Gartmayer, Berghammer and Kern freely exchange lead and rhythmic roles. Their music combines experiments in abstract sound, subversive humour and Dadaist play with distinctive melodies, the emotional intensity of ballads and dance rhythms.
Susanna Gartmayer is a bass clarinettist, composer and improviser who has been active in experimental music since the early 2000s. She studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her interests include the polyphonic possibilities of low clarinets, multi-idiomatic improvisation and open compositional forms.
Thomas Berghammer is a trumpeter, composer and educator who has lived in Vienna since 1991. He studied at music universities in Linz and Graz. His work focuses on free improvisation, contemporary jazz and world music.
Didi Kern is the drummer of Austrian bands Bulbul and Fuckhead, and a member of ensembles including GBK, DEK-Trio and Broken.Heart.Collector. He has played drums and percussion since 1983, received a classical music education and spent eight years performing in a marching band.
Since 2015, Gartmayer, Berghammer and Kern have jointly organised the Monday Improvisers Session at Vienna’s Celeste club.
