The Anton Duo: saxophonist Anton Ponomarev and guitarist Anton Obrazeena. These Russian musicians, now based abroad, have to their name Massacre – a debut LP born of uncompromising experimentation, Aural Corrosion (2023) featuring guest appearances by Merzbow and Alex Buess, and an expanded 2024 release, Sonic Oblivion -an intense collision of musical destruction with clean guitar tones, a modified pocket trumpet, and subtle electronics.
Their music is defined by massive, dense sounds that transcend conventional guitar or saxophone effects, creating powerful walls of noise. Obrazeena is the frontman of the Moscow noise-rock band Jars, while Ponomarev is part of punk-avant-jazz-noise groups (Teufelskeller, Brom, Speedball Trio, Catatonic Leisure) and performs with Pussy Riot (Riot Days program). Both are dedicated activists, representing a socially and politically engaged music scene.
