The Anton duo: saxophonist Ponomarev and guitarist Obrazeena. Russians who have been living abroad for years have recorded “Massacre” – their debut LP, the result of uncompromising experiments and explorations, “Aural Corrosion” (2023, with guest appearances by Merzbow and Alex Buess) and an extension of last year’s album – “Sonic Oblivion” ( 2024), a collision of musical destruction with the pure sound of a guitar, a modified pocket trumpet and subtle electronics.
The musicians use a massive, heavy sound, they are able to create a wall of sound, not entirely reminiscent of the effects of playing a guitar or saxophone. Obrazeena is the leader of the Moscow noise-rock band Jars, Ponomarev – a member of punk-avant-jazz-noise bands (Teufelskeller, Brom, Speedball Trio, Catatonic Leisure), he also performs with Pussy Riot (Riot Days program). They are both involved in activist activities and represent a socially and politically engaged scene.
