Wacław Zimpel – a musical chameleon, since 2012 he has been continuing his adventure with classical Indian music, on the basis of which Saagara (from Sanskrit – ocean) was formed. Apart from Zimpel, the band is composed of outstanding percussionists Giridhar Udupa, Aggu Baba, Thavil Raja and violinist Mysore N. Karthik. They released two well-received albums, the first directly referring to the forms of Carnatic music, the second with an admixture of electronic music in the form of trance beats and ambient spaces under the instrumental parts. The third album (premiere in October 2024), released by the Tak: Til Glitterbeat label, is another new chapter of the band related to Wacław Zimpel’s search and activities in recent years. He moved far from jazz, transforming into an electronic music producer who collaborated with the most important figures of the contemporary electronic music scene, such as James Holden and Sam Shackleton. These experiences and new tools enabled him to create a completely new quality with Saagara, constantly pulsating with Indian rhythm, but immersed in sequences of synthesizers and samplers, organs and electronically processed acoustic instruments. The Krakow audience will be able to experience it right after the album’s premiere.
