Final Concert of the Blue Shroud Band Residency: “all this this here” & ADAM Quartet

We will conclude the week-long celebration of the Blue Shroud Band’s decade of artistic activity with a special concert featuring a guest who will present a fresh take on the string quartet genre, embodied by the ADAM Quartet. Their contemporary perspective allows for collaboration across various styles and musical disciplines while remaining true to the essence of the string quartet genre. During the final evening, they will guide us through the music of Barry Guy and Franz Joseph Haydn, as well as the poems of Samuel Beckett and writings that inspired Haydn’s work. The ADAM Quartet seeks to embody both verbal and non-verbal experiences through music. Their performance will include Barry Guy’s quartet “What is the Word.” The concert will conclude with a Haydn quartet based on passages from the Scriptures describing the final moments of Jesus.

Following them, the full ensemble of Barry Guy’s formation will take the stage with the piece “all this this here,” inspired by Samuel Beckett’s final poem, works by Irish poet Barra Ó Seaghdha, and haiku from the Edo period. For Guy, this is a special project; as he noted, “After the stunning performances of the band in my piece ‘The Blue Shroud’ over the past few years, it was an exciting moment to find a collection of writings that would send me on a new compositional journey.” This journey became the composition “all this this here,” which we will have the opportunity to hear in Krakow after several years.
