Three distinctive musical voices from Poland and Norway meet on the Alchemia stage, opening up a space for spontaneous dialogue at the crossroads of jazz, improvised music and contemporary music.

Paal Nilssen-Love is a Norwegian drummer and composer, and a leading figure on the European free jazz and improvised music scene. His collaborators include Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark, Peter Brötzmann and John Butcher. He also leads the acclaimed big band Large Unit.

Kamila Drabek is a double bassist, composer and painter, and a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków. She leads her own trio and is a member of O.N.E., Poland’s first all-female instrumental jazz quintet. Her debut album, Muzyka Naiwna, received a nomination for the 2020 Fryderyk Award in the Jazz Debut of the Year category.

Aleksandra Kryńska is a classical and jazz violinist and composer, and a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków and the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She has worked with ensembles including Sinfonietta Cracovia and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and has taken part in the Kronos Quartet’s 50 for the Future project.

Together, Kryńska, Drabek and Nilssen-Love will create an improvised musical space in which sound, rhythm and silence take on new meanings in real time, crossing the boundaries between genres and musical traditions.
